The smallest state in the U.S. is stuffed to the gills with all sorts of things to see and do! For everyone from history buffs and foodies to adventure seekers and jet setters who love seeking the unknown – Regardless of how we decide to spend our time off (weekend escape/ business trip/, extended vacation), Rhode Island has it all end most for these with a generous helping coastal charm. Whether in its lively cities or serene coastal towns, Rhode Island never fails to offer something for every type of traveler.
Begin in Providence, the lively capital of Rhode Island. You
can stroll the historical streets of College Hill, which even Brown University
calls home. It has a very Ivy League-looking campus, and the scenic atmosphere
is perfect for a walk. Visit the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Museum
while you're still in Providence for its wide-ranging collection that spans
from ancient artifacts to cutting-edge contemporary works.
You also can have such a unique experience in Water Fire,
which is an award-winning fire sculpture installation on the rivers of downtown
Providence. More than 80 floating bonfires are lit on the water and
synchronized to music featured on select evenings.
A trip to Newport is a must for anyone calling on Rhode
Island, which especially lures visitors are the magnificent Gilded Age
mansions. These grand estates, the summer homes of some of America's most rich
and famous families are now open to public tours where you can marvel at a
lifestyle that was lived by an exclusive few during the late 19th. The Breakers
(a stop not to be missed, with its beautiful architecture and luxurious rooms of
an age past)
Walk the Cliff Walk: a 3.5-mile picturesque trail along
beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and some amazing mansions; it stretches
alongside Newport's Palaces to create an ultimate beauty pageant! Be sure to
check out the Newport Folk Festival or Jazz Festival while you're in town if
visiting during summer when these well-known events host international royalty
of their crafts.
For a more laid-back lifestyle, you can take in the sights
at Block Island, which provides an excellent alternative to being only 13 miles
away from Rhode Island. Block Island, is famous for its extensive undeveloped
wilderness and 17 untouched miles of beachfront (along with loads more hiking
trails, lighthouses, and small-town atmospheres). Hire a bike or moped and
discover the island in your own time, making sure that you visit Mohegan Bluffs
to appreciate stunning views of the ocean from high clay cliffs.
There are many beaches in the little coastal town of
Narragansett. Top area beaches including Narragansett Beach feature the
opportunity for swimming, surfing, and beach lounging. You can also try the
local catch in one of many seafood restaurants dotting town. You could also
take a ferry from Point Judith to Block Island for some fun and adventure or
check out the town's historic sites like The Lighthouse at Point Judith.
For all those food lovers, Rhode Island is heaven,
especially for seafood enthusiasts. Aside from clam chowder, lobster rolls, and
calamari can be found at many waterfront restaurants in Newport (famous for
their fresh seafood), Providence, and Narragansett. Providence is also home to
the city's Little Italy, where you can enjoy good Italian food with rousing
crowds at Federal Hill.
Summer in Rhode Island… don't miss any of the food festivals
throughout the state. The Charlestown Seafood Festival and the Newport Mansions
Wine & Food Festival, - both ideal ways to taste your way through Rhode
Island´s culinary highlights.
